Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of aerobic exercise with a pedometer on the undesirable sleep quality of pregnant mothers and the health indicators of their newborn. In this clinical trial study, using the stress sampling method, 100 mothers with poor sleep quality in Damghan City were selected and divided into two groups of 50, intervention and control, using a simple random method. became To collect data, demographic characteristics, and fertility characteristics checklist, Petersburg Sleep Quality Questionnaire (1989) and Sharkey Physical Activity Questionnaire, Apgar score form and aerobic exercise protocol using pedometer were used. The exercise protocol of the intervention group included warm-up followed by aerobic exercise with a pedometer for at least 30 to 45 minutes, 3 days a week for 12 weeks; While the control group did not undergo any intervention and received routine pregnancy care. The data were evaluated using a chi-square inferential test, analysis of variance with repeated measurements, and multivariate analysis of variance, SPSS software (version 24), at a significance level of P≤0.05. The results showed that aerobic exercise improved the unfavorable sleep quality of pregnant mothers (P=0.046, F=4.067), but the health indicators of their babies (height, weight, Apgar index, and head circumference) had no significant effect (P ≥0.05).
