One of the important strategies for reducing injuries in older adults when descending stairs is the ability to quickly achieve stability. In this quasi-experimental study with a pre-post design and a control group, 30 healthy older men from Ahvaz, aged between 60 and 80 years, were selected voluntarily and randomly assigned to two groups of 15: cerebellar tDCS intervention and sham tDCS. Participants performed the task of descending stairs on a force plate in three attempts during both pre-test and post-test phases. The training phase lasted for two weeks, with five consecutive sessions per week, each lasting 20 minutes, during which the groups received their respective stimulations. Data were analyzed using one-way analysis of covariance. The results of the present study showed that tDCS stimulation of the cerebellum has a significant effect on improving the time to stabilization (anterior-posterior and central-lateral) of elderly men (P<0.01). However, sham tDCS stimulation has no significant effect on the time to stabilization (anterior-posterior and central-lateral) of elderly men (P<0.05). According to the results of the present study, it is suggested to the trainers and geriatric specialists to take advantage of tDCS of the cerebellum in improving the time to stabilization of elderly men.
