With increasing age, movement syndrome in the elderly, as a multidimensional condition, is associated with movement disorders and a decrease in executive and cognitive functions, which can lead to a decrease in functional independence and a decrease in quality of life. This study investigated the effects of dual-task and functional exercises on executive functions and cognitive performance in the elderly with movement syndrome and compared these two types of exercises. This applied study was conducted as a quasi-experimental study with a pre-test-post-test design with a control group. The statistical population included 36 elderly men aged 60 to 75 years with movement syndrome living in Qazvin, who were randomly divided into two experimental groups (functional exercises and dual-task) and a control group. In order to assess executive functions, a set of standard neurocognitive tests were used, including the Stroop test (color-word Stroop interference test), task interventions switching test (cognitive flexibility), and working memory test. The Montreal test was used for cognitive assessment. The exercise of both groups were performed for 8 weeks, three sessions per week, for 50 minutes, and the intensity and complexity of the exercises were gradually increased. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 26 software. Covariance analysis and Bonferroni post hoc test were used to compare the differences between groups, and the significance level was considered to be 0.05. .
