The concept of Time Perspective (TP) has received less attention in the field of sports skills execution and learning compared to other domains. Therefore, the present study aimed to investigate the role of TP in the execution and learning of basketball skills. In this regard, 80 male students from Lorestan University in Khorramabad city were purposefully selected as the research sample and randomly assigned into two groups (control and experimental). The basketball skills training program was implemented for 16 weeks (three sessions per week, each session lasting 90 minutes). Data collection tools included the Zimbardo & Boyd (1999) TP Questionnaire and basketball skills tests. Data were analyzed using Pearson correlation test and multiple regression in SPSS software version 26. The results of correlation analysis showed that future time orientation (r = 0.59–0.73), present-hedonistic (r = 0.47–0.59), and past positive (r = 0.54–0.69) have a significant positive relationship with basketball skills performance in the post-test (performance index) and retention (learning index) (p < 0.01). Meanwhile, present fatalistic (r =-0.24 to -0.36) showed a significant negative relationship (p < 0.05). Furthermore, in the presence of other TP , only future orientation remained a significant positive predictor of performance in the post-test (β = 0.47–0.62) and retention (β = 0.48–0.58) (p < 0.05). Therefore, utilizing programs based on TP, particularly with an emphasis on strengthening future time orientation and reducing present-fatalistic orientation, can be proposed as a complementary and evidence-based approach to enhance the level of execution and learning of basic basketball skills.
